Making paintings is my way of thinking about people, places and situations. The lyrics of a song, words from a favourite poem, a text message or something someone’s said might hang around and spark an idea. What drives me to make pictures isn't the narrative itself, nor a wish to illustrate it, but rather the desire to find a way to express its emotional currency. The title of a painting might lead you into it.
Paintings on paper decant from the same process, but are driven by a need to make something more decorative through shape and colour.
I'm a designer too and have produced several collections of contemporary rugs, as well as bespoke commissions.
